By Nwanosike Onu, Awka

Billionaire oil magnate, Prince Arthur Eze, has dismissed calls by Minister of Labour and Employment Senator Chris Ngige to banish him with 12 suspended traditional rulers in Anambra as uncalled for and inconsequential.

He described the comment by the former Governor as “ranting from an ant.”

Dismissing Ngige as unfit to serve in the current administration, which he described as the nation’s best, Eze, in a statement by his Media Directorate Head, Okpala Okechukwu, said one would have thought that anybody occupying the respectable office of a Minister would be articulate and deep in knowledge of contemporary issues in the orbit of partisan politics.

He said it was not proper for Ngige to call for banishment of traditional rulers whose only offence was going to Abuja to commend the President for the magnificent jobs he had done in the South-East.

“Dr Ngige as a Minister did not take time to study the underground colouration given to the trip for political reasons by the state government.

“Accepted is the fact that he has been involved in serious traditional leadership crisis in his community over the Igweship, but this should not becloud his sense of judgement to make calls that has no legal or constitutional backing.

“As a Minister, Dr Ngige ought to know that no section of the Nigerian constitution empowers a State Governor to banish or trample on the fundamental human rights of any Nigerian citizen as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution.

“Any governor that attempts to heed to Dr Ngige’s call certainly should be taking an action that is against the letters and spirit of the Nigerian constitutions.

“For Dr Ngige to call for the banishment of a man of Prince Engr Arthur Eze’s status not only in Nigeria but the entire world is, to say the least, most callous, derogatory and unbecoming of a Minister.”

Ngige, on Saturday, led a protest in the community and called on Governor Willie Obiano not to only suspend the 12 traditional rulers that visited Abuja recently without his permission but banish them from the State.

Ngige also said the banishment should equally be extended to Prince Arthur Eze that led them to see the President to serve as deterrence to others.

Nigeria Will Be Transformed With Igbo Man As President —Nwodo

The President of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo, said at the weekend Nigeria would witness a remarkable turnaround in fortune if an Igbo man emerged the country’s president in 2023.

In a congratulatory message to the Nigerian-born newly appointed Minister of Justice and Solicitor-General in Alberta, Canada, Kelechi Madu, the Ohanaeze chief said Nigeria would be transformed with an Igbo man at the helm of the country’s affairs.

He also appealed to the Federal Government to stop marginalizing the people of South East extraction to enable the country fully harness their creative potentials.

Nwodo said: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo is highly honoured by the exploits of Kaycee Madu in faraway Canada as an Igbo son. Mr. Madu had contested and won a seat into the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the electoral district of Edmonton-South West from where he was appointed and sworn in as Minister of Justice and Solicitor General by the Premier of Alberta, Jason Kenney, on April 30, 2020.

On behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, I commend the sterling qualities of Mr. Kaycee Madu, as well as other Igbo sons and daughters who have excelled so much outside the country, such as the recently appointed first black Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Trinity University in the UK, Prof Charles Egbu, and many others.

“The exploits of Igbo sons and daughters both within and outside the country are indices of the cerebral capability and ingenuity of the people which Nigeria could exploit to advance its development.

“The Federal Government should stop marginalising and victimising the Igbo in the country so that the latent creative potentials could be harnessed for the good of all.

“Nigeria would witness a turnaround in her fortunes if a president of Igbo extraction was allowed to emerge in 2023.”

Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman has died at the age of 43 following a four-year battle with colon cancer, his family said in a statement.

The Hollywood star died at home with his wife and family by his side, the statement said.

“A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much,” it added.

“From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honour of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.”

The family added: “The family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks you to continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

Boseman had not spoken publicly about his diagnosis.

The US actor had been known for playing real-life figures, including professional baseball player Jackie Robinson in 2013 biopic 42 and James Brown in 2014’s Get On Up, before he landed the Marvel role which made him a superstar.

He first played Black Panther in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, before the character headlined a hugely successful blockbuster in 2018.

Black Panther was a hit with critics who praised its diversity and it grossed over 1.3 billion dollars at the global box office, as well as earning a best picture nomination at the Academy Awards.

In June he starred in Spike Lee’s searing drama Da 5 Bloods, playing a Vietnam soldier.

Why The Masters winners are given a Green Jacket for winning at Augusta

Why The Masters winners are given a Green Jacket for winning at Augusta

One of the most famous traditions in sport sees winners of The Masters awarded with a "Green Jacket".

The iconic item of clothing is the most prestigious prize in golf, given to those who conquer the imposing Augusta course to win the Major event.

But just what does the Green Jacket mean, and where did the unique tradition originate?

The Masters was first played as the August National Invitational back in 1934, and three years later club officials decided on the Green Jacket as an official symbol of membership.

The item was designed to be exclusive to those invited to join the August National golf club, representing the status that brings.

Patrick Reed received his Green Jacket as Masters champion last year (Image: Reuters) The Pantone 342 coloured jacket also brought about practical benefits, namely that large crowds of spectators could identify club members to ask them for course information as they were easily distinguishable from the public.

The club then decided 15 years after the inauguration of the tournament, in 1949, to start awarding tournament winners the same Green Jacket. It did not, and still does not, however, grant the winners with membership to the club, as the jacket was initially designed to signify. The first Green Jacket was awarded to 1949 winner Sam Snead, and they were then retroactively given to former winners dating back to 1934.

Tiger Woods has won four Green Jackets during his career (Image: Reuters) The jacket belonging to the winner of the first ever tournament, Horton Smith in 1934, was sold at auction by family members for a whopping $600,000, making it the most expensive piece of golf memorabilia ever.
The jackets have developed over the years, with early recipients claiming they were too uncomfortable to wear in the Georgian Spring heat and being made lighter and cooler in modern designs. The iconic moment of the winning golfer being presented with a Green Jacket shortly after the final hole is actually not their item of clothing. The jacket presented at this point is taken from a club member with a similar build to the winning golfer before being returned after the ceremony. A tailored version is then prepared and presented at a later date.

BREAKING: After al-Bashir's Ouster, Sudan Releases All Political Prisoners

BREAKING: After al-Bashir's Ouster, Sudan Releases All Political Prisoners

The security agency in Sudan has granted freedom to all political detainees, following the ouster of Omar al-Bashir, President of the country, from office.
Al-Bashir, who has been President of Sudan since mastering a coup d'etat in 1989, stepped down on Wednesday.
A brief statement by the National Security and Intelligence Service announced the freedom for political detainees but did not expressly indicate when the release would take place.
Nevertheless, this will be welcome news to tens of thousands of Sudanese who are celebrating al-Bashir's outster on the streets of Khartoum.
Washington Post, though, quoted Sudanese activists behind months-long protests against al-Bashir as saying hundreds who were detained over the demonstrations have already been freed.
The activists spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal.
Two senior Sudanese officials said the Army forced al-Bashir to step down but the circumstances of the apparent ouster remain unclear.

French President Emmanuel Macron Officially Declares April 24 Day of Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide

French President Emmanuel Macron Officially Declares April 24 Day of Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide

PARIS — French President Emmanuel Macron has signed a decree designating April 24 as the day of commemoration of the Armenian Genocide.
According to the document, a ceremony paying tribute to the Armenian Genocide victims are set to be held in Paris on this day every year. Similar events can also be held in each department at the initiative of the community heads. The French prime minister is responsible for the implementation of this decision, the order says.
Macron, in keeping with a 2017 campaign promise, told an annual dinner of the Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations in France that France was among the first nations to denounce “the murderous hunt of the Armenian people in the Ottoman Empire.”
France officially recognized the Armenian Genocide in 2001 and a law in 2016 made it illegal to deny that status.
The Council of Europe and European parliament have both recognized the massacres as genocide, as has Pope Francis. However some other countries, including the UK, have said the evidence is not strong enough.
Macron said he informed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about the decision in advance, adding that he wanted to keep an open dialogue with Turkey.
“We have disagreements over the fight against the Islamic State, human rights and civil liberties in Turkey and on the genocide,” Macron said.
“We also have points of agreement such as the necessity for a political transition in Syria. As such, dialogue with Turkey is indispensable,” Macron said.
Turkey has denounced Macron’s decision to set April 24 as a day to commemorate the Armenian genocide as political manipulation.
“We condemn and reject attempts by Mr Macron, who is facing political problems in his own country, to save the day by turning historic events into political material,” Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said in a statement.

Omar Hassan Al-Bashir Is Removed as Sudan’s President

Omar Hassan Al-Bashir Is Removed as Sudan’s President

Sudan’s military ousted President Omar al-Bashir on Thursday, the defense minister announced, ending a 30-year authoritarian rule in the face of mass street protests that have swept the country.

Defense Minister Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf said that Mr. al-Bashir had been taken into custody and that the government had been dissolved, and there would be a two-year transition period.

Mr. al-Bashir, 75, who has long been regarded as a pariah in the West and is wanted by the International Criminal Court on genocide charges in connection with atrocities in Darfur, has ruled Sudan longer than any leader since the country gained independence in 1956.

The state news report, accompanied by patriotic music, was made as protesters demanding Mr. al-Bashir’s ouster gathered outside the military’s headquarters in Khartoum, the capital.
